Furry four legged friends in the production area whether it be winery, brewery or distillery are often silent companions in the day to day routine of life. Words don’t readily capture the impact they have on the lives and well-being of those around them. They manage to capture hearts and leave indelible imprints on our very souls. Their significance is portrayed well in the series of photographic books by Craig McGill and Susan Hill called ‘Wine Dogs’ and ‘Wine Cats’.
Gidget has left her loving paw prints on our hearts. Golden retriever sunshine, cheekiness and unconditional love, her presence in periods of great change and hard work has kept us grounded and sane. In her younger years she was our walking companion, overseer in brewery construction, building renovation, big sister to our two boys, comforter, protector and all round fun girl… the list could go on and on really.
Sadly, we said goodbye to our Gidget. She died peacefully at home with us. While we still feel emotionally raw, we are so thankful for the fourteen happy years she gave us. She truly was a golden girl.
This is a tribute to all four legged companions who make life so much more meaningful for us at work and at home. So raise a glass, to your furry friend big or small and hold them just that little bit closer today and celebrate, for however long you do have them in your life – let’s face it, it never is quite long enough!
So sorry for your loss Angela…Golden’s are such a special breed.
Thank you for your words. It was a heartfelt read.
Thanks Peter!
