Great things come from collaborations, and this little drop from Alistair and Rose Turnbull is just that. The success of collaborations can mean even more when you have a shared history and friendship. In 2006 when we first opened our doors as a brewery Alistair Turnbull was also in the process of establishing the Lobethal Bierhaus microbrewery and restaurant. Over the years we have collaborated ideas and beers from time to time and enjoyed a brewing comradery in a growing industry.
This barrel aged Chocolate Oatmeal Stout is one in a limited run of 300 750ml bottles. Originally brewed with a perfect balance of golden rolled oats, roasted malted barley and a careful selection of English hops it was then allowed to age in our First Release whisky barrels over many months. The result is a spectacular whisky infused stout that offers a smooth roundness, lingering chocolate coffee sweetness and whisky suggestion on the palette. At around 11%abv the flavours will continue to develop and improve over time.
Our group of willing tasters offered their ideas on perfect food pairings which included: any chocolate based desert, drunken lamb and Christmas pudding. Whatever you chose to pair this with, it would be decadent drop to share at your next table occasion! For those who manage to get a bottle of this and already have the Fleurieu Distillery’s First Release – we’d love to have feedback on your tastings of the two together.
